Dr. Mindy Merritt attended Elizabethtown College, graduating Summa Cum Laude and earning many accolades in field hockey including Regional Academic All-American honors and an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship award. She earned her medical degree in 2007 from Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. After medical school, she completed her general surgery residency at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. During her training, Dr. Merritt was honored with a Certificate of Excellence in Patient Care and the Tina Hewett Award of Excellence.

After finishing general surgery training in 2012, Dr. Merritt completed a fellowship in breast cancer surgery at the Levine Cancer Institute, Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. During the multidisciplinary fellowship, she was exposed to all aspects being a breast care doctor including management of genetically predisposed and high-risk patients. Her training also included spending time with medical oncology, radiation oncology, plastic surgery, and as a thyroid surgeon among other disciplines, allowing her to understand the full breadth of breast cancer care using a team-oriented approach. In addition to her interest in breast care, she also has a special interest in thyroid, parathyroid, and abdominal surgery and colonoscopies. She is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

Dr. Mindy Nace Merritt was born in rural central Pennsylvania. After spending childhood summers working at the family screen printing business, she decided to pursue a career in medicine. While studying in Wilmington, she met her husband, Stewart. Together they enjoy exploring the waterways and coastal towns of eastern NC. Dr. Merritt currently lives and works in Morehead City, North Carolina, with her husband and children.
